The Flashbacks Session

Sunday, January 27, 2008

For the past eight years I have played in a band called The Flashbacks. This group has been around longer than I have! We are playing a benefit show this coming Saturday night to benefit a little girl who needs help raising funds to travel to China for some treatments. You can read those details here. This will also be my last show with the group. I will be taking an extended leave of absence to give myself a little more free time....at least that's the idea.

Anyway....we needed some promotional images to help us promote this show so I set up in our drummer's garage and shot those a few weeks ago. I didn't want to shoot the standard group shot so I shot each member separately on white seamless and then created a composite of everybody. This also gives us the flexibility of making changes to the promotional images when band members change...like...uh....let's say the guitar player leaves. All we have to do is shoot the new member and presto.....you've got an updated promo photo.

The only things I did in post production was to change the colors on a few outfits that didn't match everybody else and I did a sharpening technique that gives the overall image a good pop....a little pinch of the Dave Hill technique....if you know who that is!

I also made a short behind the scenes video from our shoot that night! Check that out below!

Dave,
I had seen the photo but not the video. That was fantastic and hilarious all at the same time. By the way, nice socks ala the Blues Brothers!
